A plug-in loop driver card fitted inside a multi-protocol control panel to give it one additional detection loop. This is the component that actually determines which device family will communicate with the panel on that loop, so the card selection and the detector selection have to be made together at design stage. The card provides a single loop that can be wired either as a Class A closed loop or as a Class B open spur, and it supports optical and thermal detectors, monitor modules, control modules, isolator modules and conventional zone interface modules all on the same circuit. The 460 mA current rating allows a fuller device population than the lower-rated variant of the same card, which matters when a loop is carrying a large number of loop-powered sounders and beacons alongside the detectors. A practically useful feature is double address detection. If two devices are accidentally set to the same address during commissioning, the panel reports it instead of leaving a silent gap in the coverage. The loop voltage jumper must be set to the correct position for the installed driver type before power is applied. An addressable multi-criteria detector that adds thermal assistance to the optical detection chamber, with embedded software managing the two elements as a single unit taking one address on the loop. The benefit of that combination runs in two directions at once: better immunity to false alarms from steam, dust or cooking aerosols, and a faster response across a wider range of incipient fires than an optical chamber alone can give. The device conforms to both the smoke detector and the heat detector standards, and also holds CEA 4021 approval, so it can be specified where an insurer requires that level of qualification rather than the minimum standard. Sensitivity for each element is set from the panel, with two autolearn settings, three fixed settings and a thermal-only mode for periods when the space is unusually dirty or dusty. The thermal element works from a fixed threshold at fifty eight degrees Celsius with rate of rise assistance. Twin indicators give full three hundred and sixty degree visibility, and a built-in test function is provided. An active remote display and control unit installed away from the main control panel, giving whoever is stationed at the building entrance or in the security room the same operational capability that is available at the panel itself. On a large or spread-out site this removes the need to walk to the panel room before anything can be done about an alarm. The distinction between an active and a passive repeater is a real one. A passive unit indicates status only, while this unit carries key-switch enabled controls for silence, buzzer mute, system reset, accept, evacuate and self test. An access enable key-switch prevents unauthorised operation, so the controls are available to responsible staff without being exposed to the public. The unit connects to the panel over the RS485 peripheral bus and presents system status on a backlit adjustable alphanumeric display supported by a set of general status LEDs covering fire, fault, disablement and test conditions. It requires its own mains supply, and on certain panel ranges an RS485 communication card must be fitted in the main panel first.
