An active remote display and control unit installed away from the main control panel, giving whoever is stationed at the building entrance or in the security room the same operational capability that is available at the panel itself. On a large or spread-out site this removes the need to walk to the panel room before anything can be done about an alarm. The distinction between an active and a passive repeater is a real one. A passive unit indicates status only, while this unit carries key-switch enabled controls for silence, buzzer mute, system reset, accept, evacuate and self test. An access enable key-switch prevents unauthorised operation, so the controls are available to responsible staff without being exposed to the public. The unit connects to the panel over the RS485 peripheral bus and presents system status on a backlit adjustable alphanumeric display supported by a set of general status LEDs covering fire, fault, disablement and test conditions. It requires its own mains supply, and on certain panel ranges an RS485 communication card must be fitted in the main panel first. KIC supplies, installs and maintains it as part of the fire alarm systems we deliver across Egypt.
