The base is the part that fixes to the ceiling and carries the loop wiring, with the detector head plugging into it in a single quick action. Separating the base from the head means the cabling can be installed and tested before the devices themselves are fitted, and any detector can be swapped later without disturbing the wiring at all.
A standard base provides screw terminals for loop positive and negative plus a remote indicator output that can drive an LED outside the protected room. It accepts a wide range of conductor cross-sections and allows cable entry either from the rear or along the surface through side knock-outs. A tamper-resist feature can be enabled so the head cannot be removed without a purpose-made tool, which matters in public areas and schools.
An isolator base adds a short-circuit isolation circuit. When a fault develops on part of the loop, it isolates only that section so the remainder of the installation keeps working instead of the whole loop going down, and it restores automatically once the fault is cleared. KIC supplies and installs these bases across Egypt.
